USD Surges as Risk-Off Sentiment Intensifies; Oil and Gold Rally
USD strengthened as risk-off sentiment deepened across global markets, while commodities surged sharply. Markets ended the week under pressure, with equities declining significantly and the US dollar gaining broadly against major currencies. Heightened geopolitical tensions, alongside a strong rally in oil prices, boosted safe-haven demand, while weaker consumer sentiment data further weighed on risk appetite.
The US Dollar Index hovered near recent highs, as AUD/USD remained under pressure near its lows. EUR/USD and GBP/USD both declined, reflecting broad USD strength. Meanwhile, USD/JPY pushed to fresh highs not seen since mid-last year, while NZD/USD weakened further. In commodities, oil and gold both rallied strongly, reinforcing the defensive tone in markets.
