USD Steadies as Markets Await Key U.S. Inflation Data

Forex Market 

USD: Firmer Ahead of Key U.S. Data; AUD Trades Near Lower Range
  • Wall Street was weaker into the close, with all three indices trading -1.2% late in the session as markets turned cautious ahead of key earnings and data releases. U.S. 10-year yields eased to 4.13%, while Brent crude held steady near $64.30/bbl. The USD strengthened broadly, pushing AUD/USD toward the lower end of its 0.6482–0.6537 range.
  • Asian markets opened the week softer — Hang Seng -0.8%, Shenzhen -0.7%, Nikkei -0.1% — while the ASX 200 was flat. AUD/USD dipped to 0.6512 before recovering into the London session.
  • European equities opened lower: Stoxx -0.3%, CAC -0.2%, DAX -0.1%, FTSE -0.1%, as the USD stayed firm. EUR/USD hovered near 1.1600 lows, while GBP/USD held closer to 1.3172 highs.
  • Ahead of the NY session, USD strength continued: AUD/USD fell to 0.6509, EUR/USD to 1.1592, and USD/JPY climbed to 154.92. GBP/USD was the exception, lifting to 1.31915.
  • Data releases included US Empire Manufacturing (18.7 vs 5.8 exp), Canada CPI (0.2% MoM, 2.2% YoY), and US Construction Spending (+0.2%), all supporting USD upside.
  • Into late NY trade, USD/JPY surged through 155.00 to 155.315 highs, while AUD/USD tested 0.6482 lows as USD strength persisted.
