USD Steady as Markets Monitor Inflation Data and Middle East Developments

Global currency markets traded cautiously overnight as investors balanced stronger economic data with rising geopolitical tensions. The U.S. dollar remained slightly under pressure across the session, allowing commodity-linked currencies to recover modestly, while U.S. Treasury yields edged higher.

The Australian dollar traded within a wide range against the U.S. dollar before settling slightly firmer ahead of the Asian open. The currency gained support as the USD softened following stronger-than-expected U.S. housing data, which showed an increase in existing home sales and indicated continued resilience in the housing market.

Meanwhile, the euro and British pound both strengthened against the U.S. dollar, reflecting steady buying interest in European currencies. In contrast, the Japanese yen gained modest ground as the USD/JPY pair moved lower while markets assessed shifting risk sentiment and movements in global bond yields. The New Zealand dollar also advanced during the session as the softer USD supported commodity-linked currencies.

Geopolitical headlines involving Iran and developments around the Strait of Hormuz contributed to volatility in energy markets, briefly pushing Brent crude sharply lower before prices rebounded later in the session. These developments influenced broader risk sentiment and currency market positioning.

Overall, major currency pairs experienced notable intraday movements as traders reacted to economic data, geopolitical developments, and fluctuations in commodity prices. Looking ahead, market participants expect buying interest in the Australian dollar to emerge near key support levels, while resistance may appear at higher levels as traders continue to monitor upcoming inflation data and geopolitical developments.
