USD: Firmer as Risk Sours; AUD & NZD Under Pressure
The USD strengthened as risk sentiment deteriorated, with Wall Street giving back early gains and volatility surging. AUD/USD slid steadily from above 0.6500 to lows of 0.6436, while NZD/USD dipped to 0.5589. USD/CAD pushed up to 1.4106, and USD/JPY held elevated levels near 157.90 despite brief pullbacks.
In Europe, EUR/USD briefly rebounded after weak data but ultimately printed new lows near 1.1500–1.1507, while GBP/USD fell to 1.3040–1.3070. Better-than-expected US employment and housing data briefly weakened the USD, lifting AUD/USD back above 0.6500 and GBP/USD to 1.3120, but gains faded as risk-off flows returned.
The session closed with the USD broadly firm, commodity currencies softer, and AUD stabilising just off the lows near the 0.6450–0.6500 zone.
