Range-Bound Trade as Geopolitics Caps Momentum
Markets remained range-bound overnight as geopolitical tensions limited momentum, with currencies holding within tight ranges while traders looked for clearer direction from macro data and developments in the Middle East. The Australian dollar moved within a narrow band and settled slightly firmer, while the U.S. dollar briefly softened following weaker U.S. services data before recovering modestly on geopolitical headlines. The euro tested recent highs before easing, the British pound pushed higher then pulled back, and the yen saw the dollar rebound toward the middle of its recent range. Meanwhile, the New Zealand dollar stayed near its highs and the Canadian dollar strengthened slightly as USD/CAD edged lower.
U.S. ISM Services came in below expectations, which weighed modestly on the U.S. dollar, although elevated price pressures within the report helped limit further downside.
