USD Firm as FOMC Passes Quietly; AUD Holds Above Key Level
The FOMC left rates unchanged as expected, generating little reaction across FX markets, while the USD gradually strengthened through the session, weighing on the euro and sterling. The Australian dollar outperformed, comfortably holding above a key psychological level, supported by strong domestic inflation data and ongoing speculation around possible currency intervention. USD strength became more evident later in the session, with the euro sliding to its weakest level since mid-year and the yen pushing to multi-month lows against the dollar, while the AUD remained resilient near the middle of its recent range and the broader dollar index continued to firm.
