Global Markets Update: USD Strength, Wall Street Mixed, Key Economic Data Ahead

Forex Market 

USD Firm; AUD Softens as Risk Sentiment Weakens
Global markets traded cautiously, with Wall Street mixed — Nasdaq +0.3%, S&P 500 -0.1%, Dow -0.3%. U.S. 10-year yields held at 4.11% while Brent crude slipped 2.1% to $63.50/bbl. A broadly stronger USD pushed AUD/USD to 0.6451 before stabilising near 0.6460.
Asian equities were mixed, with the Nikkei and Hang Seng -0.3% and the Shenzhen +0.4%. The ASX 200 fell -0.3% as financials and utilities lagged. AUD/USD briefly dipped to 0.6477 before recovering toward 0.6490 into the London open.
European stocks weakened at the open, while U.K. 10-year yields eased to 4.545%. U.K. Services Inflation printed 4.5% y/y, nudging GBP/USD and EUR/USD to fresh lows.
Later, UK Gilts sold off, lifting the 10-year yield to 4.60%. EU CPI matched forecasts, offering little market reaction. The U.S. trade deficit narrowed to $59.6bn, with the USD firming further.
AUD/USD retreated to 0.6460, NZD/USD to 0.5603, EUR/USD to 1.1540, and GBP/USD to 1.3071. USD/JPY climbed toward 156.71.
Wall Street opened firmer but faded, while headlines noted the BLS would not release an October jobs report and political tensions rose over comments targeting the Fed chair.
Into the FOMC Minutes, USD strength persisted, driving EUR/USD to 1.1517 and GBP/USD to 1.3054. The Minutes showed limited appetite for a December rate cut due to inflation concerns. The session ended subdued: Nasdaq +0.2%, S&P 500 +0.1%, Dow -0.1%.
