Global Markets Mixed as U.S. Shutdown Vote Nears

Forex Market 

USD: Mixed as Shutdown Vote Looms; AUD Steady Near 0.6540
Wall Street traded mixed overnight ahead of the U.S. government vote to end the shutdown. The Dow Jones gained +0.8%, S&P 500 +0.1%, and Nasdaq -0.3%. U.S. 10-year yields fell 5bps to 4.06%, while Brent crude dropped 3.9% to $62.63 a barrel.
The AUD/USD traded in a tight 0.6516–0.6550 range, settling around 0.6545 before the Asian open.
In Asia, equities were mostly firmer — Nikkei +0.4%, Hang Seng +0.8%, Shenzhen -0.1%, and ASX 200 -0.2%, with tech stocks falling -3.3%. The AUD/USD remained confined to a 0.6516–0.6532 range through the local afternoon.
European trade began quietly, with German October CPI confirmed at 2.3% y/y. The CAC, DAX, and Stoxx each rose +1.0%, while the FTSE was flat as GBP/USD slipped -0.2% to 1.3117.
EUR/USD reached 1.1588, AUD/USD peaked at 0.6544, and USD/JPY gained 0.5% to 145.91, after Japan’s PM Takaichi expressed heightened interest in monetary policy.
Political jitters in the UK saw GBP/USD fall to 1.3084, while USD/JPY climbed through 155.00 to hit 155.05 highs. Meanwhile, USD/CAD dropped below 1.4000 after Canadian Building Permits jumped 4.5% in September (vs +0.9% expected).
The USD eased into the NY close as AUD/USD touched 0.6550, NZD/USD 0.5669, and EUR/USD 1.1598.
