USD: Weaker as Wall St. Slips, AUD Under Pressure
U.S. 10-year yields rose 2bps to 4.14%, while Brent Crude declined 1.8% to $65/bbl.
- AUD/USD initially tested highs of 0.6610 during the Asian session before a sharp sell-off into Europe pushed it down to 0.65695, tracking broad USD strength.
- AUD/NZD traded between 1.1368–1.1429, while NZD/USD fell to 0.5735 before partial recovery to 0.5806.
- EUR/USD and GBP/USD weakened through the European session, touching lows of 1.1542 and 1.3288 respectively.
- USD/JPY extended gains to 153.23, staying firm above the 152 handle.
- The USD Index (DXY) traded between 98.699–99.563, closing stronger on the day.

Headlines to Watch
- United Kingdom: BOE’s Catherine Mann signalled that the Bank should maintain a restrictive stance until inflation and expectations are firmly back at target a clear hawkish tone despite slowing growth.
- Canada: The Labour Force Survey (Sep) is due tonight. August saw employment contract for a second month (-66k), lifting the jobless rate to 7.1%, its highest since 2016 (excluding the pandemic). Markets will watch closely for further signs of labour market cooling, with implications for the BoC’s Oct 29 policy decision.
- United States: A quieter session ahead with few domestic releases.
- Australia: AUD/USD remains heavy, with demand expected near 0.6500 and selling interest around 0.6630.
