AUD: Range-Bound Trade as Risk Sentiment Softens into Week’s End
A quieter session ahead of the U.S. MLK Day holiday kept FX markets subdued, with risk sentiment weakening late in New York following political headlines. The USD firmed alongside higher U.S. yields, pressuring high-beta currencies, while the JPY outperformed on renewed focus around Japan’s currency weakness. AUD/USD traded within a narrow range and settled slightly lower, EUR/USD and GBP/USD eased after testing highs, USD/JPY drifted lower on JPY strength, and USD/CAD edged higher amid steady USD demand. AUD buying interest remains on dips with selling interest on rallies, while JPY continues to be sensitive to official commentary and fast-money flows.
